lovescaf_pow: (impure thoughts over caf-pow)
No body can play a character 100% perfect - at least not 100% of the time. So that's what this post is for. If for any reason you see me having Abby behave in a particularly OOC way, want to offer me advice on how to make her even more IC, or want to leave some sort of praise so that I know to have her behave a certain way more often, please leave it here. I will only accept criticism left in a thoughtful and constructive manner - anyone who flames without offer of suggestions on how to improve (beyond "quit while your ahead" or "get out of the game" etc., etc.) will be laughed at, thought to be nothing more than a troll, and the comment deleted. Other than that, I will take all comments seriously and be sure to work out whatever kinks I need to to make Abby the best that she can be.

CHARACTER
» Name:
Abigail "Abby" Sciuto
» Fandom: NCIS
» Reference: http://ncis.wikia.com/wiki/Abigail_%22Abby%22_Sciuto
» Canon Point: Season 9 Episode 4: Enemy on the Hill, After she leaves Gibb's house
» Gender: Female
» Age: Unknown within canon save for it being speculated in Season 7 as being in her "late twenties" So I would say in her early 30s by Season 9?
» Orientation: Most likely Pansexual. Abby has admitted openly that gender does not matter to her and it's about love. She is a very open minded person when it comes to sexual practices, as stated in her personality section.
» Personality: Abby is an interesting blend of contradictions, to be sure. She loves loud music – namely rock/metal/trance music – and names her teeth. She plays dirges while in mourning and then jazz at funerals, and can't stand to wear formal clothes if they aren't gothic styled, like what she wears to Kate's funeral. She's a non conformist goth with a happy and cheerful disposition. She is an expressive personality in that when she's happy she will dance or fist bump or run up and tackle you in a hug. When she's angry at someone she has no problem getting physical, such as punching Tony on the shoulder or slapping someone else she's really mad at full on in the face. For someone so open and loving as Abby, she also clearly has commitment issues such as dumping McGee by the end of Season 1 when he asks where their relationship is going and saying she will never get married in Season 5.

Abby is a contrast of many things in many ways. She is the "energizer bunny" of forensics and a sweet, smart, sassy young woman from the south. She is Abby Sciuto: girl, geek, and goth with a gift of babbling coherently. She drinks the highly caffeinated drink, Caf-Pow in large quantities and is often gifted with these by members of the team on several occasions for her hard work when it is successful in opening up a case further or closing it all together. Some times she is seen drinking De-Caf-Pow when she feels the regular drink interferes with her sleeping. She almost kicks her caffeine habit entirely in Season 4.

Abby is very much a humanitarian, working for Habitat for Humanity, and becoming angry at McGee for shooting a dog that was framed for the murder of a Petty officer in the Season 5 episode “Dog Tags” despite it attacking him and his shooting it being in self defense. She is smart, but still keeps things social. She's friendly and outgoing, and only snipes back at people who offend her first, usually subtle (or not-so-subtle) digs about how a goth could possibly be a good scientist. She's very loyal to her best of friends - coworkers and outside of work - and enjoys hanging out with them at clubs and bars and concerts.

While not an official Agent of NCIS, Abby has been involved in a few tough situations through her line of work, and thus is emotionally more resilient than most normal citizens in the face of danger. She's been the subject of potential kidnapping on numerous occasions – such as the man who was hired by a suspect in a case she was presenting evidence in court, to hurt her, in Season 3's Episode Bloodbath, but was unsuccessful due to the tazer gun Ziva gave her earlier in the episode. This was almost successful due to the team's distraction by her stalker ex boyfriend, of whom Abby concedes she has shown bad judgement in relationships on several occassions.

Another instance of kidnapping occurred in the spin off of NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, when Abby went to help them solve a case involving a killer called the Phantom and ended up almost becoming a victim herself. She has never returned to LA and it is widely believed by the fandom that Gibbs and Director Vance have forbidden her from returning alone, given the incident.

All of her odd quirks aside, she is very focused and knowledgeable when it comes to her forensics and blogs about it on a (closed forum) website for forensic scientists. She has a strong sense of justice and a liberal mindset. She speaks rusty Spanish, a little French, and a slew of Latin root words thanks to her science background, in addition to being fluent in American Sign Language. Abby was once an anarchist but turned away from it because there were "Too many rules." She is very much a free spirit in many ways, not just her gothic fashion sensibilities. She's had casual sex with friends before, has had at least 10 discrete exes, has a flirtatious and open relationship with McGee whom she formerly dated and been with a person with dwarfism.

She also happens to have a transsexual best friend, is into BDSM, has a myriad of tattoos on her body, sleeps in a coffin, and wears funeral attire to church. Abby is of the Catholic faith. She has been seen carrying a rosary in her purse and is in a bowling league with nuns from her church. She volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, enjoys Vegetarian food (though probably doesn't follow it strictly), and loves stuffed animals as much as normal animals.

When Abby is nervous or even over excited (or had too much Caf-Pow) she will speak very fast and it will come across as babbling. Often times anyone talking to her on the team will have to slow her down with a cry of “Abby!” or any other way to get her attention and she will go at their pace. Sometimes she can read a look from someone else that says the situation is serious and cut herself off, but not often. When Abby is under extreme stress she will resort to hugging her stuffed hippo, Bert, who also happens to fart when hugged. This has served as comic relief in the past.

As an informal member of the NCIS Team and the resident Forensic Specialist, Abby's other specialties include:

- Audio/Visual analysis, matching, reconstruction, & syncing
- Animation to theorize events of the crime scene
- Background research on Persons of Interest
- Back-tracing phone and internet signals
- Ballistics analysis & matching
- Blood, DNA, & Fluid analysis & typing
- Bomb material & creation pattern signature analysis
- Component Isolation of unknown substances and subsequent Toxicology Reports
- Computer, File, & Schematics (Code/AI) Analysis
- Crime Scene Overall Analysis (putting all the pieces together or noting discrepancies)
- Encryption & Cipher Un-scrambling
- Facial recognition & reconstruction and Image Enhancement
- Fake ID manufacture
- Fiber, Hair, Paint, & Paper Analysis
- Fingerprint matching
- "Hacker" but more second- or third-rate; not as good as McGee, but pretty good all the same
- Tire-track Analysis
- Undercover work (in small ways, usually, sometimes only in voice)
- Weapons Analyst

Abby is also fully capable of doing things the old fashioned way when her equipment is not immediately at her disposal: distilling blood work, matching fingerprints and tire tracks, etc. It takes her roughly 72 times longer, by her personal estimate. While this can be tedious Abby refuses to work with a partner, having a bad experience the one and only time she is granted someone to work with her in the lab. Because of her expertise she can also home brew alcohol with the right equipment. The only other non-technical skill she has is lip-reading. She is by no means an expert, but she can single out common and non-complex words (i.e. few syllables).

While she is a scientist first and firmly believes in rock-solid evidence, she is also extremely interested in things that have no evidence to contradict them, such as the supernatural. She is intrigued by mummies, curses, grave-robbing, crop-circles, feng shui, etc. and has said she checks her horoscope every day, knows a great deal about witchcraft & voodoo (she plays with voodoo dolls to relax), and knows how to read tarot cards ("It just helps me think"). While she can come across as stereotypical in her obsession with death and it has been stated as what got her interested in forensics in the first place. It's not about the dead bodies but about they whys and the hows, and thinking outside of the box. Her philosophy when dealing with large amounts of evidence is:"No plan of attack, just go. Find along the way. If you look for something specific, then there's only one right answer."

She is also unshakable in her loyalty to Gibbs and her NCIS family. McGee remarked on her priorities once, stating: "You love this country, you love NCIS, you love your lab - you'd never betray Gibbs." Another good quote to represent that, from Abby herself after being offered a job in another lab: "How could you think that I would be leaving? Because I got a little mad? We're family - that's allowed." Though she might tease them all mercilessly she loves them all like her blood family.

Abby has been known to get very worried about her friends when they're injured in the line of duty, though it's not as bad as it used to be. Despite her best efforts, she also takes death of a colleague very hard. She often times expresses her feelings the most out of anyone in the main cast. Accusations of betrayal don't phase her but real proof of deception bothers her immensely. Her #1 Rule is "You do not lie to Abby." Abby is very family oriented with the members of the team and while this is a strong bond, her own blood family is called into question when she finds out around her canon point that she is adopted.

She can be very vindictive, forceful in her tone, and bull-headed when she gets genuinely upset. While Abby has shown that she can handle herself in small scuffles when someone tries to attack her, she knows she's completely out of her league as soon as a gun is drawn on her.

One thing of note in recent years that has affected her personal life that while she grew up with a brother, Luca, and her currently deceased hearing impaired parents in New Orleans, they are not in fact her biological family. It has been recently discovered by season 9 episode, “Enemy on the Hill”. Abby has yet to reveal this information to anyone other than Gibbs, to date, as she is unsure of how to approach either of her brothers about the topic and is unwilling to unsettle either of them. I feel it is a mark of her character that she is more concerned with the feelings of both her adopted and biological brother than finding out more about her origins. Abby is a selfless and kind person by nature, as shown time and again through out the series' current 9 seasons.

» Appearance: Abby is caucasian, female, and stands 5'10" (before shoes). She is naturally fair skinned with green eyes and black hair which is often worn in two pig tails, braids, or any variation of the two. She very rarely wears her hair down. Generally she keeps her clothing casual while working in the lab or outside it because business casual or formal wear makes her uncomfortable. Generally she will wear corsets or teeshirts or blouses with a choker or collar to accent her other various bits of jewelry as long as they do not inhibit her work. Abby will wear skirts or casual pants to go with her completed attire as well as her lab coat and gloves when in the lab. It should be noted that while she also favors Black or White she has been seen wearing Red or Pink as well. She will mix and match more "mainstream" clothes with a few hints of Gothic and Lolita type attire.

On her skin Abby has various tattoos not all of which have been seen given their location. They are as follows:

- A Spider Web and Spider on the left side of her neck
- Three dots (representing braile presumably) on the outside of her left ankle
- An Angel stick figure on her left shoulder blade facing her spine (mirrors the devil on her right)
- A Devil stick figure on her right shoulder blade facing her spine (mirrors the angel on her left)
- A Large Stylized Cross down her spine
- A letter "P" on her right arm below her wrist
- A filled in smiley face with green coloring on the inside of her right ankle
- A smaller smiley face on her middle finger of her right hand. The eyes are near the joint of her finger and the smile is towards her finger nail.

Her collar will look like this:

abby collar
Black leather, with a metal and jeweled piece secured at the base of her throat.

[She's had enough time since waking up to be informed by the maids of her situation to a degree, but it still doesn't make her feel at ease. She won't betray her fear, not to the enemy. She's been kidnapped before and remembers it well. Los Angles. Gibbs and Director Vance didn't let her go back to LA after that. Her first thought goes to her friends and if they'll be able to find her, wherever this places is . The maids only told her that she was wearing a collar that would not come off and she had nothing in the way of sharp objects to disprove this information yet. So, before the feed kicks in, Abby is already running through scenarios and her surroundings. When she sees the red light go on, she switches gears and gives off her usual calm persona, though underneath she is a bundle of nerves. That's why she has Bert. It was a blessing, really. That and the fresh clothes. Not bad style, whoever her kidnapper was. When she speaks, it's almost with an awkward and forced calm but she tries to keep herself up beat. Maybe there's a way out of here somewhere? There is a slightly darkened spot in the feed where she's holding the device with tissue paper to avoid contaminating any possible finger prints she might get on it.

So, Atians – have a pigtailed gothic girl on your device! She's looking for answers and will babble at you until she gets them.]

I've been kidnapped before and this is the first time I haven't been drugged and woke up in a weird place as a result – points for the fancy furniture. Whoever this is, sorry but I don't have whatever it is you want from me. My friends are going to come busting through [She points over her shoulder, jabbing her thumb in the direction of the door behind her.] - that door any minute now and all of your plans are going to be totally shot.

[Hopefully literally]

I'll admit you have a creepy way of welcoming a girl. Stripping me, leaving an unlocked door, and meek little maids? You'd think I was in a fancy hotel. You want to not be a creep and talk to me to my face? I think you could do that much. Pretty stupid, leaving me this little recorder since I can just take it apart and get evidence on you.

[She takes a moment, looking off screen as she thinks of what else she might say. She's still getting a feel for her surroundings.]

This whole thing is just hinky. The maids told me to talk to this thing like you'll actually answer...

[Abby lets out a breath, setting Bert aside. She's less nervous now and more irritated, determined to stay alive long enough for Gibbs and the others to find her. She does not need to be going through this again. One minute she was home the next she's in creepy hotel. Not exactly on her list of things to do on any day. After a minute of examining the device further looking for clues like a time stamp on the recording feed, she cuts it at last. She plans to take the device apart and examine it fully.]

» "amatomneslogs" Third-Person Prose Entry:

The room is spacious in terms of size, two chairs set in opposite corners across the room from an equally spacious queen sized bed. The sheets are a dark colored satin, the same shade as the walls. The furniture all screams a Greek theme, but holds a gothic type feel to it as well – fitting for a certain Forensic Specialist now finding her way to the island of Atia. Abby is sound asleep in the large bed, dark hair mussed in places from moving in her sleep. Her pale skin contrasts with the dark sheets surrounding her, giving it a milky white tone. A quiet gasp escapes her, lips barely parted in her slumber. Limbs shift and she moves to her side to get more comfortable and then to her stomach, arms curling under the large down pillow cradling her head. Her dream does not seem to be an unpleasant one, evidence of a smile slipping into her features and the soft hum of approval. Her long lashes flutter as her body struggles between sleep and waking, her mind not quite ready to wake from the obviously happy dream. She lays perfectly still for several moments, her breathing even. It doesn't take longer than these several moments of complete silence for her to come free from her subconscious.

Slowly, awareness comes to her. It's as if her mind is in a fog, heavy with sleep. Green eyes see without seeing, as if in a daze, and then all at once she snaps alert, the fog lifted only from her mind like a soap bubble popping right in front of her. She'd been having such a nice dream too, evidence of it in the light sweat over her skin, the stickiness between her thighs discovered by inquisitive fingers.

“Oh-” She moves to push up away from the foreign bed. This is not her room. Where was her coffin? Her other furniture?? No. This was definitely not her room. Her limbs are like jelly, but she pushes through the weariness, pulling the sheet free from where it's folded at the end of the bed and tugging it around herself.

“They stripped me?!” Her voice is quiet, shock and amazement bordering on horror. If she was naked, was it possible she'd been assaulted as well? Her stomach turned at the thought. Scrambling out of bed, pulling the sheet as tightly around her torso as it will go, she turns frantically on the spot, mouth agape.

“Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no- AH! Calm, Abby – calm. This isn't the first time you've been kidnapped!” The spinning stopped along with her words, as she takes in the room that is her prison. It's well decorated for a room that's built to hold one captive. Scanning for badly hidden bugs – possibly in the hideous potted plant on the end table or in the ceiling fan? - she crawls back onto the bed, holding fast to the bed sheet and stumbling up into a standing position to examine the fan better. When that was deemed satisfactory and bug free, she gives a huff of frustration and drops to her knees, bouncing lightly on the bed in her landing.

“Well, this is just great.” She grinds out between clenched teeth, bitterly adding words for her captor who could possibly be watching her, “Hey, creep! If you can hear me, you'd better give up while you're ahead. I'm a Forensic Scientist for a government agency and they don't exactly take to people who kidnap their employees!” Her panic begins to ebb slowly, but not fast enough for her to be able to focus. Her hair is not in it's usual pig tails so it bothers her slightly when it catches on her collar. Wait- what? She was naked except for her collar? Now that was hinky. Groping around, she searches for the buckle that would free her from the irritation of having it catch on her hair. Finding none, she gives up with a huff. Now that was definitely weird.

She's narrowed the facts down to a few things: strange room, one window, high end furnature, no electronic bugs. Now if she could just remember how she got here. It was frustrating! Anger bubbling up, Abby picks up a pillow and hugs it to herself, nails tearing into the fabric but not enough to rip the pillow. She needed to stay calm, assess the situation, and figure out a means of escape. There was a door but that would most definitely be locked. She looks around again and to her disbelief there are clothes set in one of the chairs, neatly folded and complete with a pair of shoes. Throwing the sheet aside, she moves to her feet and approaches the chair with hesitance and reaches for the clothing laid out seemingly for her. They certainly look like something she would wear. A t-shirt with some common place graphic design, a skirt, a belt, socks, and the heeled shoes. It would do.

Not trusting it, her touch is light and she smells the shirt first. Nothing out of the ordinary it seems. If it was an odorless toxin, she'd be dead by now. Strange. Everything about this situation was strange. She didn't know what to do, how to react, aside from being nervous and wondering how she got in this mess and how she might get out of it.

“No cellphone, no computer, and they know what clothes I like...” She recites her assessments aloud as they come. Whoever had kidnapped her obviously knew things about her and was smart enough to isolate her from communications. Too bad they didn't think to tie her up or keep her from a room with windows. She makes note of the window, facing west in the room. She'd look out it later and get an idea of her location. For now, she needed to be clothed. The fabric was soft a sit slid along her skin. To her discontent, they'd even given her some pretty nice looking underwear. It was all making her stomach knot up, how well they seemed to know her tastes.

Clothes were a small luxury right now that would be explored later. Now, she needed to find her way out of this situation. Moving to the window, she half wonders why her captor didn't bother to board it up. Taking in the view, her breath catches. There's a healthy amount of grass and trees and other folliage. It looks almost tropical in nature....? She can't be sure. Pushing open the window, she takes in the smells, a hint of the beach wafting in from some unknown place to mingle with the forest smell near by. She's definitely not in the city, or at least not in her city. Pulling back, she closes the window once more. Panic is starting to bubble in, eroding over the confusion. Sitting on the end of the bed, she hugs herself, taking a deep breath. That's when she sees him. Bert, sitting innocently on the other chair that she hadn't bothered to look at. That meant they'd been in her lab, whoever had taken her. The thought made her feel sick all over again. Was it someone from NCIS who had taken her? If so, who? So many questions and no answers. Quietly, she drags herself from her curled up protective bubble and moves towards the promise of comfort that is Bert the hippo. Picking the doll up, she finds a PDA. Had her captor been careless?

“Yes!” She whispers her excitement at finally, hopefully, getting some answers and returns to her seat at the end of the bed, hugging Bert to her chest with her free hand.
